Truman Capote was an interesting character, having been an openly gay man in a time when such things just weren't discussed, so it would follow that he would have a gift for writing interesting characters. The most famous of his characters was of course, Holly Golightly, who was portrayed in the movie adaptation of "Breakfast at Tiffany's."
This month's crochet pattern is based on that particular novella. Actually, if you want to be exact, it's taken from a scene in the movie in which Holly Golightly answers the door wearing the most charming sleep mask--so charming that we just had to replicate it.
Feel free to post your comments about the book below.
The Animator's Wife's Review: Love it, and by "it," I mean specifically Breakfast at Tiffany's. The short stories in this collection just felt kind of unfinished to me, with the exception of "A Christmas Memory," which felt so real I wonder if it really was a memory of Capote's. But Breakfast at Tiffany's was the meat and potatoes of this collection, and I must say, it was quite progressive for its time. Capote speaks frankly about gay relationships (having been openly gay himself), and that was really refreshing for a classic.
Side note, I feel Audrey Hepburn was not the best choice to play Holly Golightly in the movie adaptation. While I love her interpretation of the character, in the book Holly (to me) was much less glamorous and much more... gold digger, or even white trash. But that doesn't make her any less lovable. It makes her that much more real."
Brownie Points: Holly Golightly says that whenever she gets "the mean reds" (or anxious), a trip to Tiffany's is just the thing to calm her down. For The Animator's Wife, it's brownies. Check out her Emergency Brownie Kit here.
