Companion Cube

I am very excited to be announcing this new pattern today. It's quite geeky, but was perfectly fitting for The Animator's birthday last month. How many of you are fans of the game Portal?

The software company Valve (the makers of Portal) has graciously granted us permission to publish the pattern for our Companion Cube applique. But if you'd prefer to make your own actual cube, simply make 6 of these babies, sew them all together into a cube shape, and you're good to go!

Copyright Notice: I don't usually get this particular my patterns, but Valve is only letting us publish this  pattern on the condition that it not be used for commercial purposes. In other words, this pattern is for personal use only. It may not be used to make things that you intend to sell. Please respect Valve's wishes on this. They're being nice to us by letting us publish it, so we can be nice to them in return. Also, it's the law.

And so, without further ado....

Stuffed Cube Finishing

If a 3-dimensional stuffed cube is desired, make 6 appliques in either thread or yarn. You will obviously end up with a much larger cube if yarn is used. Sew the appliques together in a cube shape, stuffing firmly before the last seam is sewn.

  1. Hi there.
I've used your pattern and wanted to thank you warmly for putting it online !
Also, the instructions were clear enough, that after a few puzzled reads, a French speaker who had never crocheted anything in her life could end up with something looking real nice.
Two appliques sewn together to make a pouch, in which to put a smaller bag containing wheat and lavender (5 min in the microwave, and look who's got a nice cosy geeky heater)
