Little Lovely has been an invited to her first birthday party this weekend, for her very own friend who will be turning one year old. The Animator's Wife wanted to make sure Little Lovely (and herself) had the perfect fashion accessories for this milestone, so she whipped up a couple of designs for the occasion.
For herself, The Animator's Wife created an elegant teething necklace. Little Lovely's at that age where she likes to chew on anything The Animator's Wife is wearing (just like a kitten!), so she figured she might as well wear something baby-appropriate.
The teething necklace is available for order in our Shop de Crochet Kitten. Each one is handmade by The Animator's Wife and available in custom colors.
For the Lovely, she made an interchangeable flower headband. The flowers attach to the headband with the button, so that she can mix and match the colors to coordinate with each outfit.

Materials
Size 3 embroidery thread (DMC Pearl Cotton) - 27 yards makes 1 headband and 1 flower
2.75mm steel crochet hook
1/2-inch button - 1 for each headband
Tapestry needle small enough to fit through the button
Size: Preemie (Newborn, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-24 months) - see size chart at end of pattern
Gauge: 26 dc = 4 inches
Note: Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. To avoid confusion, it may be helpful to circle the numbers corresponding to your size before beginning this project. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.
Headband
Ch 67 (80, 93, 106, 119).
Row 1. Dc in 4th ch from hook and ea rem ch across. 64 (77, 90, 103, 116) dc.
Row 2. Ch 1; turn. Sc in ea dc across. Finish off.
Join thread with sl st in first unused loop of beg ch. Ch 1, and working along the bottom of Row 1 in unused loops, sc evenly across. Finish off.
Sew ends together to form a ring. Sew button over seam. Weave in all ends.
Flower
Worked in the round.
Ch 9. Join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1. Ch 3, 17 dc in ring. Join with sl st in top of beg ch. 17 dc.
Rnd 2. Ch 1, sc in same ch as joining, ch 3, skip next dc, *sc in next dc, ch 3, skip next dc; rep from * around. Join with sl st in first sc. 9 sc and 9 ch-3 sp.
Rnd 3. Sl st in first ch-3 sp, (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in same ch-3 sp and ea rem ch-3 around. Join with sl st in first sc. 9 petals.
Rnd 4. Working behind Rnd 3, sc in first un-worked dc of Rnd 1, ch 3, *sc in next un-worked dc of Rnd 1, ch 3; rep from * around. Join with sl st in first sc. 9 sc and 9 ch-3 sp.
Rnd 5. Sl st in first ch-3 sp, (sc, hdc, 6 dc, hdc, sc) in same ch-3 sp and ea rem ch-3 around. Join with sl st in first sc. 9 petals.
Finish off. Weave in all ends.
