Vintage Inspiration

In case you haven't guessed yet, The Animator's Wife has been on a vintage kick. She's joined two vintage-themed swaps, one in which she received this from Valerie on Ravelry:

Retro 50s Kitsch Swap 2

And one for which she's made this necklace of vintage design:

Vintage Necklace 1

We found this pattern in the vintage book Traveling Kitten sent us from Cape Cod.

Vintage Necklace 2

Isn't it lovely? The Animator's Wife has played with crocheting jewelry before (remember the Hope Bracelet?), but she really seems to be getting into it this time. Last week she ordered a bunch of silk cord, freshwater pearls, and sterling silver notions, and as soon as it arrived she dived right into designing her own pieces. She finished her first necklace last night.

Kaycee Necklace

Do you like it? It can be yours after a quick stop in the Rambling Yarn Shop.

Hmm, I'm thinking The Animator's Wife has found a new favorite activity. Now we just need to figure out how to keep the kittens out of the pearls...

  1. I would like to have the patterns for these two necklaces. I did not see them for sale.

  2. Hello Bobye!

Unfortunately I do not have a pattern for the black necklace with colored pearls as it was crocheted freehand on a whim. I can, however, give you the pattern for the blue necklace with white pearls. It's taken McCall's Treasury of Needlecraft, originally published in 1955.

    Size 5 crochet cotton
    57 pearls
    Necklace clasp

Thread pearls on cotton. Leave about 10" of thread hanging for sewing. *Ch 6, push over 1 pearl; repeat from * until ch measures about 13 1/2" with 18 pearls. Ch 6; finish off, leaving about 10" for sewing. Work 2nd ch the same way with 19 pearls, and 3rd ch the same way with 20 pearls. Sew on clasps.
