Spiral Coasters

So many kittens, so little time. I know I've been quiet on the interwebs lately, but I've been busy trying to help The Animator's Wife out with the FIV kittens. They grow up so fast! It hasn't even been a month yet, but already they're getting too big to keep in the bathroom. They try to bolt every time the door is opened, and one of the little girls even chased me down the hallway!

We still haven't found a foster for them, but they're getting re-tested for FIV next week through the Feline Foundation of Greater Washington. What a wonderful group this is! They don't have any fosters available, so they're beginning the steps of finding permanent homes for the kittens in the event they test negative--and they haven't even met them yet! Everyone keep your fingers (and paws) crossed for us!

So that's why I've been so quiet about The Animator's Wife's crocheting lately. But rest assured, she's been keeping busy with that as well. She recently received some lovely coasters from a keep-it-simple-swap on Crochetville.
Dobermama's Coasters
She calls them coasters, I call them sliders. They are just entirely too much fun to bat back and forth across the table. If you like them, you can find the pattern here.

In return, The Animator's Wife sent out four coasters with a spiral design. She enjoyed making them so much we thought we'd share the pattern with you.

  1. Oooh! Pretty cosaters. And it is a small enough project I wouldn't feel overwhelmed. I hope.....

  2. So pretty! And I am in need of some of these. Thanks for sharing the pattern :-)

    ps: I love your cats!

  3. These are very nice. I tried them, but they came out as flowers ???
Not sure what I'm doing wrong...
    Anyway, yours are beautiful! ;^)

  4. You're not doing anything wrong. There's a flower in the middle with the spiral around it. ^_^

  5. LOVE both the coaster patterns! Thank you!!

  6. What kind of yarn did you use to make these coasters? i know it says 4/worsted, but i have lots of 4 ply yarn, and its kinda thick looking, is that the same kind? sorry 'bout the Q but i'm kinda new to the whole yarn business! but i love your patterns and can't wait to make them!!

  7. Hi Marika! We used Lily Sugar'n Cream cotton. =^_^=

  8. what do u mean by chain 6 sc in ring?

  9. Meka: After you make the beginning 6 chains and join it into a ring, you chain 6 and work a single crochet in the ring. Does that make sense?

  10. is this pattern for the 1st or 2nd picture?

    1. Sorry, I guess that is confusing. The pattern is for the second picture.

like Anonymous,, I have a nice flower but no spiral,,, doing something wrong,, either I am connecting at the wrong place or not understand the pattern,,, something isn't correct on my end,,, tried two and still no spiral,, nice flower coaster,,, any suggestions,,,

    1. The coasters do have a flower in the middle. The spiral goes out from there.
